Institute of Physics (IFS)

The Institute of Physics is an institution primarily dedicated to fundamental research in the field of physics, which includes solid state physics, atomic and molecular physics, plasma physics, surface physics, optics, biological physics, and statistical physics. It was founded in 1960, originally as a component of the University of Zagreb, and it began to operate as a public institute owned by the Republic of Croatia in the 90s. In addition to its ongoing goal of conducting top-level research, the mission of IFS also includes technology transfer efforts and supporting the development of industry and small and midsized enterprises. Also, the Institute plays an important role in the education and training of young scientists and participates in international research projects. Its scientists regularly publish papers in prestigious scientific journals and participate in conferences around the world. IFS also has significant experience in the implementation of research and science popularization projects. According to the fundamental documents of the Institute, its three primary activities include:

  •  Research – in the field of physics and interdisciplinary fields related to physics
  • Innovations – application of research and transfer of knowledge through innovations
  • Education – participation in higher education through cooperation with national universities and the popularization of physics and science

Through AI & Gaming EDIH, the employees of the Institute will conduct a series of test before invest and educational services aimed at introducing entrepreneurs to the advanced possibilities of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, the adoption of which opens great opportunities for increasing efficiency in production and business processes.

As part of the project, they will develop an example of an artificial intelligence management method for the control of high-temperature furnaces and set up a method of testing the effectiveness and modifications of these methods for different production processes. The acquisition of new equipment is planned, in particular, a computer with the ability to connect to various industrial machines will be used for demonstrations via special events.
